Trying to Reason with Hurricane Season

Hurricane IkeWell, I’m sure you know that all eyes in Charleston are on the Tropics.  We have four storms lurking out there, and needless to say, real estate is on the slow side this week.  Everyone is at home, stocking up on groceries, medications, making plans, etc.  It’s no different for real estate agents.

It looks now like Tropical Storm Hanna is going to go north of us, but we still have extra things to take care of if it does decide to swing back to the south.  For instance, we have to get our computers out of the office.  Also, we have to visit each of our listings, especially those with out-of-town owners, and secure our signs and flier boxes.  Really, we have to take them down, and then put them back up after the storm is past.  We don’t want them flying around in a hurricane- it’s just the right thing to do.

I think all the “Hurricane Hype” is pretty funny.  Of course, you have to be smart and take precautions, but it is so easy to get caught up in the madness.  Here in Charleston, which has had it’s share of bad hurricanes, we watch the Weather Channel avidly this time of year, waiting for each and every Tropical Update as it becomes available.  The thing is, it changes constantly, and it puts you on a bit of a roller coaster ride.  Unless you take precautions, you could find yourself scrambling at the last minute, when they finally nail down a landfall area.  Even then, it’s unsure.  Funny thing about weather….
