Continuing Education for Charleston Realtors, The Green Way

Posted on | January 13, 2009 | No Comments

I have to renew my South Carolina Real Estate license this year.  It requires that you take a certain number of continuing education classes every 2 years.  We actually have more in Charleston because our Association of Realtors recently added 6 more hours that we have to take.  That brings it to a total of 16.5 hours of continuing education every 2 years.  I am going to take a class in March on Green real estate and building practices.  I’ll receive a Green Realtor designation, too.  I’m excited about it.  I’m not sure exactly what all the class will cover, but that is an area that I’m interested in, and I think that a lot of buyers are, too.  I’ll do future posts on the green class/designation.

We have several “green” developments going on in the area, particularly as part of the Noisette Project in Park Circle, which is a redeveloping area in North Charleston.  Park Circle is a historic area that was originally designed as a live/work community.  It fell into disrepair over the years, and has experienced a rebound over the past 4 years or so.  The Noisette Project is exciting.  You may have heard of the Old Navy Yard, Mixson, or Oak Terrace Preserve.  These are all parts of Noisette.  The Old Navy Yard has a lot of great locally owned businesses, including Coast, which is a brewery owned and operated by some good friends of ours.
